Closest to OEM found
Posted by Mark Taylor on Jul 10th 2023
Unfortunately, I had many failed attempts at buying an ignition lock switch from other aftermarket sellers. In some cases, the keyway was completely different which made it impossible to get matching blanks to cut copies. Also, since the seat lock didn’t match the ignition, I ended up with multiple keys for ignition, seat, fuel, etc.
Also, if you take your new ignition lock switch to a locksmith to have it re-keyed, it’s gonna cost you more than what you paid for the lock. The lock cylinder is held together by thick steel tabs and the entire assembly has to be removed from the lock body.
I already had a problem with the seat lock and the steering column not working properly -OR- were completely froze up. This set solved that problem.
Also, after comparing the original key to the new one, the graphic stamped in the plastic finger hold area of the key was exactly the same as the original that is 45 years old. Newer Kawasaki keys have the letter “K” in the middle and the key blank is not the same.
In conclusion, don’t waste time trying to buy just the ignition lock. Buy this set. It is an exact match to the original.

Direct Replacement

Great solution for my "barn fresh" 1978 KZ 1000 that came with no keys. Have it turning over now, spark happening and looking forward to that sweet sound!

Perfect

Almost indistinguishable from OEM. I compared these keys to OEM, and the only real difference is the direction of the key number.

Very Nice Repop!

The KZ1000 set is so similar to OEM, the only way to distinguish them without a magnifying glass is the old one is dirty and the new one is not. Key looks like OEM "lion heads" with the only difference in the orientation of the code number
